If you really want to feel like you’re living the romantic countryside dream, you could do worse than to wake up in the renovated Cob Barn, collect eggs from their friendly hens and rustle up a tasty breakfast in the farmhouse kitchen. Placed quite centrally in Cornwall, The Cob Barn allows guests to easily explore different corners of the county but is closest to lovely Porthpean beach and St Austell.

The building itself was affectionately restored using traditional Cornish methods and timber from Plymouth dockyards. It’s quiet and rustic but uncompromising on comfort, with a wet room shower, heated slate flooring and a projector for film nights. Lots of walking paths criss-cross through the surrounding countryside for rambling types, but if you fancy sticking nearby there’s outdoor seating in their tranquil yard. There’s one bedroom, but two additional beds can be set up to accommodate four guests in total.

Maverick tip

Make use of the nearby bridle path that joins the National Cycle Trail. It’ll take you to Pentewan Sands along the beautiful Pentewan Valley Trail avoiding roads.
