The Angel Taste of Devon is ideally located for those visiting the coastal town of Dartmouth and seeking something special. Situated in the town centre overlooking the picturesque River Dart, the building itself has a vibrant culinary history. It first opened its doors as The Carved Angel back in 1974 and quickly became regarded as one of the finest restaurants in the country. Now, reinvented as The Angel: Taste of Devon, Chef Elly Wentworth is at the helm and doing some pretty extraordinary things.
Relaxed fine dining is the name of the game and Elly works closely with local farmers and suppliers to maximise flavours. She and her team add their own unique flair to every plate of food that leaves the kitchen, but this is no ordinary fine dining experience. Dishes are accomplished and refined, without being overly fussy. You can expect dishes like Devonshire Red Venison with Pomegranate Chutney & Red Wine Jus or Sladedown Farm Duck with White Turnip, Blackberry & Sea Salt Granola.
The restaurant itself is relaxed and unpretentious and is open for lunch and dinner. They offer a choice of à la carte dishes or an impressive tasting menu (with optional wine flight) should you wish to splash out. Children under 7 are welcome for lunch and The Angel can cater to both gluten and dairy-free diets, as well as vegan diners (with 24 hours notice).
