Stumbling onto Potager Garden Café feels like walking into a secret garden. It’s brimming with greenery, bright flowers and ornamental shrubbery, and it’s also a fabulous cake and coffee spot.
A team of dedicated volunteers help out with planting and landscaping at Potager, resulting in a beautifully cared for outdoor allotment and greenhouse garden. Inside, the greenhouse is lush and vibrant, with several chairs and tables spread out for afternoon teas and coffees. Meanwhile, the outside space is tranquil and welcomes both dogs and families.
Aside from delicious homemade cakes – lemon poppy seed catches our eye – expect ‘Potager grown’ dishes that are bursting with flavour, using ingredients that have just sprung up in the vegetable patch.
Also nestled onsite are a cluster of artist studios, where if you time it right you may be able to catch an exhibition. Fitting with its community feel, the café holds regular craft workshops that are accompanied by fresh lunches and refreshments. The workshops aim to be fun while passing on skills and sustainable artistic practices like natural dyeing, pottery and printmaking.
Potager Garden occasionally hosts evening meals in the café. These are warm and cosy experiences with twinkling lights and delicious food. Although, if you want to experience them first-hand, be aware that they often sell out weeks in advance!
