When it comes to location it doesn’t get much better than Catch at the Old Fish Market’s prime spot on Weymouth’s vibrant quayside. Housed in the Grade II-listed Old Fish Market, the building has been painstakingly restored by local craftspeople and is now a chic contemporary restaurant that offers one of the best fine dining experiences in Dorset.
You enter Catch by way of the fishmongers downstairs, which should give you some indication of how fresh the fish on the menu is. From here, a spiral staircase winds its way up to the newly outfitted restaurant, where light floods in from the clerestory roof and picture windows boast charming quayside views. Thanks to the open kitchen, it won’t matter which table you choose, as every spot feels like the best seat in the house.
As expected, Chef Mike Naidoo’s menus are a celebration of the surrounding waters, offering a myriad of seafood and fish dishes that are cooked and plated to perfection. Alongside their affordable à la carte options, there’s an excellent six-course tasting menu priced at £70pp and a three-course lunch menu on Fridays and Saturdays.
Maverick tip: The majority of wine is available by the glass, so don’t be afraid to be experimental during your meal. If in doubt, ask a member of the team for a pairing recommendation.
