Due to the world’s current climate, society is bound to stay at home for the safety and protection of themselves and others. The disruption has put the world on halt and the entire population has had to cancel or postpone holidays, festivals and other spring/summer plans booked.
Whilst there are still countless people going to work, a large percentage are either working from home or not working at all. To those key workers out there, we appreciate you so much. Whether you work in healthcare, supermarkets, for delivery services and much more; you are all outstanding.
Currently, we are all experiencing a vast whirlwind of emotions. However, there are two things everyone in self-isolation has in common: uncertainty and boredom. You may have had to cancel or postpone your summer plans, for now, so let’s see how to make being at home feel like a luxury holiday.
Soak-up the sunshine
The UK doesn’t get it often, so we have to take advantage of it!
Currently, we can’t go out and enjoy the sun or take a weekend break. However, this doesn’t mean we can’t make being at home feel like a holiday.
Sit in the garden in your bikini and get a tan. If you don’t have a garden, sit on your roof, the balcony, or open up the curtains and sit by the window. For those that do have a garden, why not create a mini beach outside? Get some outdoor games out, or even pitch up a tent and camp for the night with your loved ones!
Have a spa day
Pencil in one day a week, at least, for you.
Why not make yourself feel like you’re at a spa retreat by having a relaxing hot bubble bath?
Do your nails, have a face mask, a hair removal session; whatever is usually a part of your routine. Just because you aren’t going out for the evening, doesn’t mean you can’t make yourself feel fabulous at home. Put on your favourite dress or shirt, have a glass of wine or two and listen to some music.
Do something you enjoy or try something new
Everybody needs a hobby.
All this spare time provides the perfect opportunity to tick off the things on your physical or mental to-do list that have been lingering for a while. Things that you’ve started and never finished, or have wanted to try but didn’t get a chance to.
Right now, you are on a luxury holiday where you are exploring what you enjoy. Whether it’s gardening, reading, writing, painting or drawing. If the weather looks promising, sit outside. Put your headphones in and listen to the sound of the sea to make it feel like you’re sat by the beach.
Be imaginative, creative; you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
Cook different cuisines (and eat outside)
Nothing says luxury holiday like an extravagant, culturally-inspired meal.
Whether you’re a beginner or expert at cooking, start creating dishes or look up some sumptuous recipes online.
To obtain that real holiday feeling, don’t just cook what you know. Try something new, a different cuisine each night from all over the world to dive into the culture. If it’s warm enough, put a table outside and dine at dusk; just like you would abroad.
Take care of your health
We usually escape from reality by taking a break elsewhere. We still can.
One of the hardest things about being at home all the time is maintaining a healthy and active routine.
Taking care of our physical and mental health will have a real positive effect during this worldwide struggle. Yoga and meditation are two of the key practices to help escape from reality and take yourself away on a holiday of your own.
Find a quiet space. Light some candles and incense. Close your eyes and take yourself anywhere in the world by tapping into all your senses. There are thousands of YouTube videos available, including yoga for stress and anxiety and guided meditations on tropical islands.
