How did wedding planners and stylists cope with lockdown?

Sophie Walker-Sunderhauf is the founder of The Little Details by Sophie, a wedding styling and planning business based in Cornwall. She predominately focuses on intimate weddings inspired by couples’ stories, memories and travels. In her own words, this is how her business was impacted by lockdown:

How has your business been affected by lockdown?

I set up in January 2020 with a goal to be fully self employed by June 2021. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 and lockdown(s) weddings have ground to a halt and no one really wants to invest in a wedding planner when they can’t see their wedding happening. So, I haven’t had any new bookings since and my fully self employed goal probably won’t be happening for a while.

Have you adapted or made changes to how you work?

I have. My consultations are virtual, but again, brides don’t really want to put their trust into someone who is planning the biggest day of their lives who they haven’t really met. Virtual consultations just aren’t the same, I’m looking forward to getting back to chats over coffee and cake!

Did you receive any help at any point?

I haven’t. Being very new I don’t have the books I need to be supported by the government, but I’m very lucky to have been furloughed from the restaurant where I also work.

What is the most positive thing you can take away from this experience?

I got to spend time with my husband, time I would never ever have had. We got to explore Cornwall together and last spring/early summer we also got to enjoy the Cornish sun while there was no one here!
