An exciting new venue has just opened its doors as part of the Sideshore development on Exmouth seafront. Café Patisserie Glacerie is Michael Caines and Sylvain Peltier’s new venue, a café with panoramic views and delicious artisan treats. From their alfresco terrace you can see the red Devonshire cliffs to the left, and in front, distant windsurfers that skim across the sheen of blue sea that curves towards Exe estuary. Doors open 13th April 2021 and there’s no doubt they will be very busy throughout the summer.
A quick glance in the window reveals a collection of uplifting little treats. Modern French pastries in lemon yellow, strawberry red and pistachio green that prove to look colourful but aren’t too sweet, pleasing foodies and instagrammers alike. And the quality of the food comes as no surprise considering the experience of the two chefs. Having worked together for over twenty years the pair have come together to celebrate their combined expertise and the inventiveness of Sylvain’s creations.
Hearing them talk about the place, you get the sense that the joint venture is an important project for them and a dream that’s been years in the making. If all goes well, they’re hoping this location will be the first of many Café Patisserie Glaceries.
And it’s not just pastries. At the back of the space there is a circular window that gives customers a glimpse of the gelato making process, their other big draw. Made by hand, their Italian style gelato uses rich Devon milk and cream and is available in sixteen flavours, including salted caramel, strawberry and vegan options. They also serve fresh handmade sandwiches, artisan coffee and traditional Cornish Pasties. Michael and Sylvain are all about using the best quality ingredients from the local area, supporting the network of growers in the region and reducing food-miles. Perfect for those looking for a guilty pleasure by the seaside or just a slice of normality.
